This work is a landmark photo essay that captures the dawning of the Occupy LA movement through the lens of accomplished photographer Annie Appel. These 116 black and white portraits from the first 60 days of the protests in Los Angeles reveal the essence of the people behind the call for change. Appel's photos provide additional voice to the movement by including revealing quotes from the activists about their hopes for a better future. As with the main ideal of the movement, "prosperity through equality," each person photographed receives one complimentary 11x14 inch print in exchange for their collaboration with this essay (upon request), and 100% of net proceeds will be donated to an Occupy LA non-profit being formed in 2012.
